From across America, thousands |

came together on April 19 to dedicate |
|
the Oklahoma City National |
|
Memorial, with special tributes |
|
delivered by President Bill Clinton |
|
and Attorney General Janet Reno. |
|
The monument's design was the vision of the |
|
architectural firm of Butzer Design Partnership |
|
of Cambridge Massachusetts. The partners |
|
Hans Ekkehard Butzer, Torrey Butzer, and |
|
Sven Berg have transformed the former |
|
site of the Alfred P. Murrah building into |
|
one of tranquility and reflection. |

Visitors are quickly drawn to the large |
|
reflecting pool, framed by 30-foot-tall bronze |
|
gates, an interactive museum, and 168 |
|
memorial chairs. The pool, which stretches 320- |
|
feet long but is only 3/4" deep, has the |
|
appearance of no water coming in or out, |
|
but rather simply suspended in space. |

Dark stone lines the pool, "making it difficult to see |
|
the bottom but easy to see reflections |
|
of things not there, " the architects |
|
said in their entry statement, "a place |
|
that leaves people with hope." |
